Kurland Villa is the home of Peter and Dianne Behr, who established the Kurland Hotel and Polo Estate. The property has been in the family for three generations. The Villa is situated on private property adjoining the Estate, near indigenous forest, and in a secluded and commanding location.
The Villa is a large, recently built home designed in the Cape Dutch tradition, but in which all requirements of modern living are fully catered. The interior finishes are of the highest specifications and the Villa has been beautifully and elegantly appointed.
Kurland Villa is suitable for families or groups looking for an exclusive, secluded country living experience. It is also the perfect base for Polo enthusiasts who might be playing/watching polo at the Estate. Although far from the madding crowd, it is close to Plettenberg Bay and its many attractions.
The Villa is set in park-like surroundings, north-facing on to an indigenous forest, on the foothills of the Tsitsikamma Mountains.
Main House: Downstairs: entrance hall, en-suite guest bedroom, drawing room, living- and TV room, dining room, large kitchen with walk in cold room, scullery, boot room, laundry and linen room. Large, covered verandah with barbecue and pizza oven flows from the house. Below, is a fully stocked wine cellar. Next to the swimming pool is a spa with Jacuzzi, sauna, steam room and change room. Broadband wireless and Satellite TV are in all the main living areas, as well as the bedrooms.
Upstairs: Landing at top of double staircase; main, en-suite, bedroom with dressing room; adjoining study and computer; en-suite double bedroom, 2 double bedrooms that shares a large bathroom, and children’s playroom.
Separate West Wing: Two en-suite bedrooms, living- and TV room with open plan dining room and fully equipped kitchen. Below is an en-suite bedroom, also with a living- and TV room, small dining room and kitchenette. As with the Main House, all rooms have uninterrupted views of the unspoiled countryside.
Kurland Villa has a permanent cleaning and gardening staff, and, if required, a butler and chef will be included in the rate for the duration of a guest’s visit.
Plettenberg Bay is a beautiful town on the Garden Route. It has unspoiled beaches, a major river mouth – the Keurbooms River and lagoon, and good restaurants and shops. It is the ‘St. Tropez’ of South Africa.
There are 15 km of beaches, perfect for long walks, collecting shells and safe for swimming. It has become well known for whale and dolphin watching, as well as deep sea fishing.
The Keurbooms River has facilities to hire small boats to spend a day up the river – a rewarding experience! It is beautiful and the birdlife is supreme.
Natures Valley is close to the Villa, and has a beautiful mostly empty beach, indigenous forests and coastal walks. Closer to the Villa there are also Elephant, Wild Cat, Monkey and Bird Sanctuaries. These are a favorite for children’s outings.
Plettenberg Bay has been declared a Wine of Origin region with many recently established vineyards and the local white is very good. Try it!
Kurland Hotel and Polo Estate is on 700 hectares of beautiful, park like surroundings. On the Estate there are 4 polo fields, a Stick and Ball field, stables, a wooden horse for polo training, an equine hospital all surrounded by green pastures and dams. There is an extensive road network and guests of the Villa are welcome to explore the Estate by quad bike or on foot or on horseback.
